What are Team USA's Travel Hacks for the Olympics and Paralympics
Released on 06/11/2024
I think a travel hack for me
is like sleeping on the plane when you can.
So I always pack my travel pillow with me
and I put around front ways on my neck
so I can kinda like lean on it like this,
and then I have an eye mask
and put your hands in your seatbelt, right?
And then you just kinda like lock in,
just lock in here and then you'll sleep on a plane.
[upbeat music]
I have a lifting hook that I use when I lift
and I don't know why
maybe 'cause I'm, like, anti-prosthetic,
but I started traveling with my hook
so I could hook on my carry-on
and then I could have my phone,
especially, like, when things change
or if I'm looking for something or somebody calls me,
like, it's only one thing but it's literally a game-changer,
like, I feel like I have so much more ability
to, like, do things or pay for things,
like, I have my hand available.
Traveling is always going to throw a curve ball at you
no matter what.
No matter how well you plan.
For me, I just always like to bring
comfortable foods no matter what.
Whether that's, like, a breakfast food, a snack food,
'cause you never really know what you're gonna get,
so I'll always fill my suitcase up.
Having, like, a familiar blanket, pillow, PJ's,
like, I think I get so much better quality sleep
and it, like, really helps me perform a lot.
Yeah, I have my pillow that I travel with.
Yeah. Keeps me sane.
Underrated for sure. Yeah.
I love organizing to the maximum degree.
It could be two weeks, three weeks.
I consolidate all of my things into, like, a little carry-on
and, like, one little personal and that's it.
Bring my sleeping mask with me all the time
to make sure I get the best sleep possible.
Puts me in a deep sleep 'cause pitch black,
it gets me ready for the big game.
If you know me,
you know my suitcase will be overweight
because I carry all my coffee with me.
Like, I pack for three weeks of coffee
and I usually have one bag left
because there's so much you can't control
when you're traveling.
The one thing I can control
is the one thing I'm passionate about and that's coffee.
I have this device that I travel with,
it's, like, this big and there's two of them
and you put them right here on your leg
and it's called a Firefly.
It helps with recovery.
It's almost like a Normatec Boot,
but you can travel with it,
you can take it anywhere,
and you can wear it as long as you want.
Traveling the world is such a blessing
and learning new cultures and seeing new things
is something I get really easily inspired by.
And I think it's easy on the road
or during tough times to get homesick and think of home
or, If I was home, I could be doing this or doing that.
And for me, when you're traveling,
it's just so important to try to be as present as possible
and just be grateful for where you are and what you're doing
and trying to enjoy that as much as possible.
And for me, my travel hack is fly business,
but also just, like, make your environment
that you're going to as similar to home
and what makes you comfortable as possible,
especially, like, when we're in a two-week training trip
or something like that,
you're gonna struggle to get sleep,
you're gonna struggle to eat well,
you're gonna have all of these struggles.
So, taking away some of the struggle in your routine,
like establishing what do you wanna do for skincare,
how do you wanna be when you're going to sleep,
how do you wanna wake up?
What do you want the space that you're gonna spend
a good amount of time in
and, like, decompressing to feel like?
I normally like to travel with my bands and stuff with me,
on me at all times
so I can do kinda like kinda workouts
and stretching as well.
Best travel hacks have to be all of my recovery tools.
I always have like some type of TENS Unit
or, like, my Theragun.
Also, hydration is super important.
I always have water, electrolytes.
I like to keep my morning routine as normal as possible,
so I bring my own coffee, I bring like a pour-over set.
It's a whole thing.
I always travel with my OMEGA watch
'cause it helps me stay on time,
like, that's so important in every sport
and, like, literally any part of life.
I also bring all my skincare, all my haircare,
like, you get so dried out in the pool.
That's super important.
And then also just things from home.
Like, I like to always have a stuffed animal with me.
My friends always make fun of me 'cause they're like,
I'm always complaining about how I'm overpacking.
They're like,
Well you do have two stuffed animals in your bag.
So, I'm that kid, I guess. That's okay.
